As you may already be aware, the first set of MARC records for Classical Music Library (link below) is a replacement set for records posted previously.* This replacement set has been tested extensively and has been found to work with all currently updated, standard systems, including Innovative Interfaces' Millenium ILS. Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate more customized requests.

Who should use this set of MARC records for Classical Music Library?

• If you have already downloaded the set posted on September 14th or earlier without difficulty, you do not need to replace those records with this set, but you should download the just-added supplemental set below.
• If you have never downloaded any Classical Music Library records, you should use this set as well as the supplemental set below.
• If you tried to download the September or August file and were unable to do so, you should be able to use this set as well as the supplemental set, below.

Please note that both zip files below contain two versions of each set, one in MARC8 and one in UTF8.

We will be releasing additional sets of MARC records for Classical Music Library over the next few months. Please check back frequently for additional sets or sign up to be alerted with every new post here.

*Background

In August, we posted the first batch of MARC records for Classical Music Library. This set included a number of diacritics, which caused problems for some customers, and we re-ran and replaced the entire set of records on September 14, 2009. Most customers were able to upload the September 14 record set without difficulty, though some customers (most commonly libraries using Millennium’s Innovative Interfaces system) did continue to have problems. This new set of MARC records for Classical Music Library has been tested extensively and has been found to work with the Millennium Innovative Interface system as well as with all other current, standard systems.

Our MARC record specifications were created in conjunction with and approved by a committee of cataloging specialists from subscribing libraries. We regret we cannot provide customized record sets. Customers are welcome to modify the records to their own standards. We have used current LC authorities whenever possible in these records. The MARC records in these files supersede records released prior to 2006. Error reporting, comments and questions about these records should be directed to marc@alexanderstreet.com.
